La Plagne: a resort born of passion
The history of La Plagne is a story of passion for the mountains and skiing. Nestled in the heart of the French Alps, this internationally renowned resort is the result of a dream come true. Its history dates back to the second half of the 20th century, when visionaries saw the untapped potential of these majestic mountains.
Modest Beginnings
In the early 1960s, the region of La Plagne was mainly a collection of small alpine villages. Agriculture was the main activity of its inhabitants, but some began to perceive something else beyond the pastures. The rugged terrain and snowy slopes were a natural playground for ski enthusiasts.
A Shared Vision
It was at this time that passionate skiers and visionary entrepreneurs began to design the idea of a modern ski resort. Their dream was to create a place where mountain lovers could gather to practice their favorite sport, surrounded by the natural beauty of the French Alps.
The Birth of La Plagne
The first step in the creation of La Plagne was the construction of an access road to the area, making the resort more accessible to visitors. Then, the first ski lifts were installed, opening the doors to a new era of skiing. In 1961, La Plagne officially opened its slopes to skiers and snowboarders, marking the beginning of its history as a leading ski destination.
Mountain stories
The region is surrounded by majestic mountain ranges, including the Mont Blanc Massif, the Vanoise Massif, and the Ecrins Massif. These mountains offer breathtaking views and are the ideal playground for skiers and snowboarders.
Today, La Plagne is much more than just a ski resort. It is a place where the passion for skiing and the mountains is mixed with a complete offer of activities, restaurants, shops and events. Visitors from all over the world come here to experience the ultimate in winter sports, surrounded by the majestic peaks of the French Alps.
