Why is ski insurance essential?
Your priority: Your safety
When planning a skiing vacation, it's essential to consider all aspects of safety to ensure a serene and memorable experience. Skiing, while exciting and exhilarating, comes with inherent risks. So, is it really necessary to take out insurance before heading to the mountains?
The answer is YES, absolutely!
Indeed, depending on the activities planned, especially off-piste skiing, mountain rescue can incur considerable costs if special means are needed to rescue you. It's crucial to check the terms of your insurance policies and the coverage offered by your credit cards, but it's highly recommended to maximize your protection. Even with great confidence in your alpine skiing skills, you could cause damage to others or be injured by a less experienced skier.
On-piste intervention costs can range between €300 and €350, plus ambulance costs, approximately €150 to €180, to take you to the hospital or a local doctor.
In the event of an off-piste accident, costs can soar to €500 to €600, not including ambulance fees. Skiing with your family without adequate insurance could turn a dream vacation into a heavy financial burden.
Therefore, it's wise to spend a few extra euros to have insurance that covers all evacuation expenses in case of an emergency.
Choosing the right insurance
When selecting your ski insurance with Freeride, here are a few points to consider:
- Level of Coverage: Ensure that the insurance meets the needs of all members of your group, considering their skill levels and planned activities.
- 24/7 Medical Assistance: An absolute necessity for any emergency that may arise at any time.
- Full Refund: In case of cancellation or interruption of your stay, ensure that the insurance covers lift passes and equipment costs.
- Review the Terms: Understand all exclusions and limitations to avoid surprises.
Opting for ski insurance when heading to the mountains with your family is a wise decision. This protection ensures your safety and peace of mind, preserving your investment and allowing you to fully enjoy your vacation. Ski with confidence and savor every moment on the slopes, knowing that you're covered no matter what.

Prepare for your arrival
Your means of transport
To make your arrival at the resort easier, plan your means of transportation in advance.
- Traveling by car
All resorts are accessible by car, but it's important to have the proper winter equipment, which is mandatory from November to March (for more information, check the road safety website). Make sure you have high-quality, snow-appropriate tires, and consider additional equipment such as snow chains or snow socks in case of extreme conditions.
- Traveling by train
The train is a practical and eco-friendly option, with many cities near ski resorts served by the TGV. Shuttles, buses, and taxis are available to take you from the station to the resort. Some resorts offer combined "train + bus" deals, which are cost-effective and have a lower environmental impact.
- Traveling by plane
Although less commonly used, the plane remains a practical transportation option for freeriders eager to explore vast spaces. Many ski resorts are located about a hundred kilometers from an international airport, with shuttles available to quickly transport you to your mountain destination.
Your personal equipment
In the mountains, temperatures can drop drastically. Make sure you're properly equipped with winter clothing, ski gloves, hats, neck warmers, and snow boots to keep your feet dry. It's essential that your clothing is breathable to manage heat during intense physical activities.
If you need to complete your equipment, visit our website specialized in selling ski clothing.
GOOD DEAL: For more tips on preparing for your trip, check out our blog articles. They're full of useful tips to help you prepare for your adventure.
Your arrival at the resort
Once your equipment is ready, remember to check the opening hours of your Freeride store and its exact address on our website. This will allow you to locate it quickly. You can pick up your equipment from the day before your first day of skiing starting at 4 p.m..
GOOD DEAL: To avoid queues in-store on Saturday or Sunday mornings, especially during school holidays, we recommend picking up your equipment the evening before, if possible.
